The Story Behind the Portrait of "Q"
I thought it worth mentioning the reason why I decided
to refer to this portrait as "Q".
The little girl's name Is Quinnlan. All along that is what
her mother and I had agreed on the piece to be named. The
portrait was as usual, we went to the location and I spent
about 30 - 45 minutes shooting Quinnlan in variuous poses.
Quinnlan is a very inquisitive young girl and her attention
span was not the greatest which is to be expected at this
age. We had brought flowers, baskets and bubble makers to
try to keep Quinnlan entertained as well as her two sisters,
one older and one younger. They posed in many shots.
The time went by quickly and I had several good shots to
choose from and the girls were getting tired so we quit.
My point is this, we didn't stage anything. We just placed
the girls or girl in the setting where I felt the background
and lighting were good and fired away.
This painting is a direct result of one of those photographs.
The only manipulation needed on my part was cropping. Everything
was as you see it.
When I was finishing the painting I realized that the composition
roughly formed the letter "Q". As it turned out,
one of Quinnlan's nicknames is "Q".
And so, there you have it.
